Welcome to International Trucks Australia

INTERNATIONAL® has a long and proud history in Australia. The first International Harvester products arrived here in 1852 via an Australian organization importing agricultural equipment.

In 1904 International Harvester of America commenced operations in Australia with branches in all states and a few years later in 1912, the International Harvester Company of Australia (IHCA) was formed, importing agricultural and commercial vehicles.

In 1937 strong local demand and Australia’s distance from the United States prompted IHCA to cease importing and instead establish a local manufacturing presence. Two years later the Geelong Foundry was opened building farm equipment items, while also assisting the Australian Government during World War II. By 1947 in an effort to meet growing demand, the Geelong works was doubled in size with a $1.6 Million investment for the expansion.

The company’s local presence was further boosted in 1952 with the opening of the Dandenong, Melbourne manufacturing facility which saw the design and development of Australia’s first locally-built truck.

IHCA sold its agricultural interests in 1985 to concentrate on commercial vehicles and was renamed International Trucks Australia in 1992 at which time the Dandenong manufacturing facility and ACCO model range was acquired by IVECO. IVECO continued to offer some imported heavy duty International truck models to meet local demand. This era ended in January 2011 when the last new International truck, a 9900 Eagle was sold in Australia, at which point International’s parent company, Navistar, sought to concentrate on the North, Central and South American markets.

Much to the delight of Australian truck buyers, in late 2016, confirmation was provided that Navistar Inc. and CNH Industrial brand, IVECO, would again enter into a distribution partnership for INTERNATIONAL® Trucks in Australia. A new dawn was breaking and the ‘INTER’ would finally be returning to Australia.

INTERNATIONAL® Trucks are distributed exclusively in Australia by IVECO Australia. As well as distributing INTERNATIONAL® products, IVECO manufacturers and imports commercial vehicles spanning the light, medium and heavy duty segment along with buses and coaches under the IVECO Bus brand.

IVECO’s Australian manufacturing base in Dandenong Victoria, represents a major investment in the local truck and bus industry and directly employs around 300 people nationwide and thousands more Australians in related industries.

IVECO Australia is a brand of CNH Industrial N.V., a World leader in Capital Goods and became distributor of INTERNATIONAL® ProStar® models in 2017.
